Field Example: Evolution of Westside Completions

Introduction

Westsides key CSG assets in Queensland is the Greater Merdian Permits (a joint-venture with Mistui E&P). Located near Moura in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, the project delivered first gas in 1996. Since 2010, the project has been operated by Westside (51% interest holder). The project owns gas compression and pipeline infrastructure that delivers gas to both the GLNG project and the domestic gas market.

Completion Evolution

According to Gorton and Martin [2022], Westside has grown over the last 10 years increasing from 9 TJ/d to 42 TJ/d. One of the changes to the workflow was more efficient drainage. The image below shows the evolution of single laterals to dual and trilaterals (these are 2022 numbers)
