Galilee Energy Pilot

Introduction

As 2022, Galilee energy had a series of exploration and pilots in the Galilee basin incl.

  • 12 coreholes to help define coals

  • 8 wells for formation testing

  • 3 Multi-Well production pilots

    • Rodney Creek vertical 5-spot

    • Glenaras vertical 5-spot

    • Genaras 17 well pilot

      • 5 Lateral wells

      • 12 vertical wells

A schematic of the larger Glenaras pilot (as of 2022), is shown below. It was stated that in 2022, that the horizontal wells in R3 seam were not able to satisfactory depressurize the reservoir. Following an analysis where vertical well MDT’s showed communication across different coals, additional vertical (or shield) wells were added but water lift was still not optimized. Ultimately, the inner laterals of the pilot were only depressurising the single R3 Seam, and not the full set of 7 seams.

Alternative lift designs were then installed and tested. Ultimately more vertical wells were installed

In the schematic below, the addition of the vertical (shield) wells significantly enhanced pressure depletion in the centre wells.
